Problems in using or interpreting the Schedules
Whilst all reasonable steps are taken to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the schedule information, there are a number of factors which could cause customers problems in finding and interpreting the correct schedule affecting them.
- Most electricity networks do not coincide exactly with area boundaries such as suburb borders. There will therefore always be a margin of error as two customers living in different parts of a suburb can be fed by different networks which could be switched off at different times.
- For this reason, customers may find multiple entries returned when searching for a particular place. We have tried where possible to switch all networks serving an area at the same time to avoid confusion.
Hints:
- Take the schedule details for all entries returned when you search for your suburb. You will find most, if not all, are scheduled at the same day and time
- If there is more than one day and time and it is not clear which one applies to you, then be prepared for all the eventualities, and when load shedding takes place, note which schedule you are on. This schedule will be the applicable one that you should use in future
- Call the Eskom Contact Centre (Eskom customers) or contact your supply authority (municipality / metro customers) for assistance
- You may find that not all suburbs / areas are listed in the schedule. The data is organised according to the official SA Government Statistical Services database of Regions, Towns and Suburbs. Sometimes places are known by local names which are not in the official database.
Hints:
- Try both the Area search box and the Province / Metropolitan Area / Suburb dropdown boxes to find your place of interest
- Try searching for your place of interest in either the Metropolitan Area or the Suburb drop-down boxes
- Try searching for areas adjacent to your neighbourhood
- Call the Eskom Contact Centre (Eskom customers) or contact your supply authority (municipality / metro customers) for assistance
- Geographic place names for these schedules have been aligned with the official Statistics South Africa geographical data. Some of the place names contain the following abbreviations which may help in determining your correct schedule:
- MP = Main Place (a city, town, township, tribal authority or administrative area)
- SP = Sub Place (a suburb, section of township, smallholding, village, sub-village, ward or informal settlement)
- NU = Non-Urban
- SH = Small Holding
- AH = Agricultural Holding
- You may find your place name in the list, but when you select it you receive a message saying that that there is no schedule available for your area of interest
Hints:
- Call the Eskom Contact Centre (Eskom customers) or contact your supply authority (municipality / metro customers) for assistance
- The municipal / metro schedules are different to the Eskom schedules in design and detail
- Eskom has established principles for the design of its schedules in order to ensure as much equity and consistency as possible. In many cases, metros / municipalities have agreed to work according to the same principles, but ultimately Eskom has no control over the municipalities / metros that determine their own schedules
